America’s Most Wanted Terrorists: Abu Hamza to face trial.
By The Anglo American | September 9, 2008
UPDATE : COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS OVERULES BRITISH GOVERNMENT
The European court of human rights has ordered the British Government not to extradite Abu Hamza to the United States. Hamza’s lawyers, paid for by the British tax payer, have persuaded the court to hold a hearing concerning the condition of human rights in a US Jail. If convicted Hamza would face incarceration in a high security jail with considerable periods of solitary confinement.
The British Government has capitulated to the ruling - a spokesman saying that this is “a matter for the European court.”
No US government official has so far commentated court’s ruling. But no doubt they will be astonished by the British government’s lack of teeth when it comes to terrorism. And they will be intrigued as to the European courts opinions on the American penal system.
The firebrand cleric, who has been stripped of his British citizenship, awaits deportation to the United States. Abu Hamza, 51, faces accusations of being a part of a global jihad against the U.S. and for attempting to set up an Al Qaeda training camp in Oregon. He is known to have sent money to support Afghan terrorists, as well as recruiting young Britons to fight against British and American troops. If convicted, he could easily face a jail term of over 100 years with the possibility of death sentence.
While vilifying the west for being decadent, this did not stop him from gouging British taxpayers for millions of dollars {US}. More than $200,000 {US} provided free treatment in a British hospital for the loss of his arms in Afghanistan. Over $1million {US} of welfare benefits have been paid to Hamza and his family. This includes a five-bedroom house in London courtesy of the British taxpayer. He has subsequently bought the house, heavily discounted under a Government subsidized purchase scheme.
Hamza has challenged the British justice system to the full and far beyond the reach of most British citizens. But the $2 million {US} legal fees where paid for by the British people as his case went to the highest court in the land - Britain’s senior political chamber, the House of Lords. Hamza may have little in common with Bill Clinton but the former President is the only American, in recent times, to bring an equivalent legal case to the US upper house, the Senate -during his impeachment.
In all, it is estimated that Hamza cost the British taxpayer $7 million dollars {US}. The sad irony of his life is that, through his actions, he has denied others the very justice he has put under intense scrutiny at no cost to himself.
As his future will no doubt involve considerable solitary confinement he will have ample time to contemplate his hypocrisy.
