Britain’s Broken Society – the Teenage Curse.
By The Anglo American | September 16, 2009
Britain’s teenagers are some of the most sexually abusive on the planet. They are also amongst the worst drinkers, smokers and have the highest pregnancy rates of any western nation.
The study from the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development {OECD} flatly contradicts Tony Blair’s successful campaign PR chime…”Education, Education, Education.” To be fair the government has poured billions of British Pounds into the state educational system. And government statistics tend to support across the board improvement.
However exams do appear to be a lot easier. If not then students have become a lot brighter. Clearly the OECD report would take issues with the latter.
It was possible to go to a good University in Britain with three A levels - two at grade B and one at grade C. Now you would easily need four or five A levels with at least two at Grade A. Grade degradation is an academic argument the government is in denial over.
When you consider that competition for a University place was five times harder 30 years ago then you would think the grades would have been far higher in those times. But they were not. Conversely, it should be much easier to find a University place today. So if the grading process was the same then one should stand a chance with a couple of Ds. The OECD supports the academic doubters since it found that educational achievement remained relatively low compared to spending. Simply, the state education system is failing to deliver. The consequences for that failure are now becoming apparent. According to the OECD one in 10 older teenagers are not in school or training or work.
A third of British 13 - 15 year olds have been drunk at least twice. Apparently girls are more likely to get drunk than boys. Teenage pregnancies are put Britain only 3 places behind Mexico at the top of the list.

In these circumstances sexual abuse is inevitable.
A recent University of Bristol study published these staggering figures based on a study of 1300 young people.
- 13 out of every 17 teenagers had an abusive relationship.
- Nine out of 10 girls in the study said they had had an intimate relationship.
- One in six said they were pressured into having sex while one in 16 said they were raped.
- One in 17 boys reported being forced into having sex.
- One in five boys reported abusive violence form girls.
Professor David Berridge from Bristol University and one of the reports authors was appalled at the high rate of violence in teenage relationships.
“It was shocking to find that exploitation and violence in relationships starts so young,” he said.
British concerns are about the ticking time bomb. These children will soon be adults - what then?
