Leader of English Church Advocates Sharia Law
By The Anglo American | February 29, 2008
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England, created a storm across Britain when he suggested aspects of Sharia law should be adopted under British law. For what is now seen as a secular country it was unusual to see Christians grabbing the headlines of the tabloids. But Rowan Williams did not just alienate his own flock.
The 1.8 million Mulisms in Britain were far from amused. The BBC’s research of polls suggested that 60% of them did not agree with the Anglican Archbishop either. To any observer with even a casual interest in history might ask themselves this question; how does the legal stoning of women, for adultery, square with the suffragette movement?
The Church of England has since argued that the Archbishop’s somewhat intellectual contemplation has been taken out of context. But to put them back into context would compel us to look at the failed policy of “multiculturalism” under the Brown/Blair Governments..
“Multiculturalism” should not be confused the multi-racism. For years British governments have been closing down debate by muddying the waters between the two. All too often legitimate argument has been branded as racist. Most Brits. enjoy living in a multi-cultural Britain. But they only have to look across the Irish Sea to understand why they reject multiculturalism.
Multiculturalism is not about people of different ethnic backgrounds living together in one society. It is about encouraging different ethnicities to live apart in parallel universes. There is no American “melting pot” at work here. And no fault can be leveled at the ethnic communities themselves for this. It is a secure feeling to be surrounded by what you find familiar. But the British government has poured in millions of pounds, encouraging new ethnic communities to isolate themselves from the people of Britain. From schools to community centers money is given out to create separation. It is possible to go through the ethnically segregated British school system with no schooling in British history. But religious teachings are strictly observed. Young people may only meet minds from different cultural backgrounds when they go to University?
The six counties Northern Ireland have experienced multiculturalism for nearly a century and it has been a catastrophic disaster. One half of the population still does not know the other half because of culturally enforced tradition. I was asked to leave a pub in Belfast precisely because I was in the {ethnically}”wrong” bar. Belfast is made up of two parallel cultures that do not know each other. The politicians may have what they want but the divisions live on. What segregated school you went to is still “code” for what religion are you? And that impacts on your employment opportunities in the region. Tony Blair spent a huge amount of time and political capital in N. Ireland. Yet he still failed to comprehend the corrosive cultural separatism that makes up this divided society. Had he done so then he would have seen that the tenet of multiculturalism prevents cultural integration.
The Archbishop would do well to remember that the Queen of England is still the head of the Church of England. It is a position that the monarchy adopted after they lethally removed an Archbishop, many years ago. While his removal will no longer be bloody, Mr. Williams may wish to mull over the words of the late Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjemin.
